The @cody_k Account & "Those Links" (Pt 1)

I've been using the terms "cody", "she", "her", etc., just because it's easier than always saying "the @cody_k account" and more clear than saying "It".  By now many of us know that the tweets from the @cody_k account can't be coming from just one person.  There might be one person who tweets from it primarily, but there's no way one person can be on twitter sometimes for 24 hours straight (on Multiply they talked about her being on for almost 48 hours), and tweet as much as comes out of that account.

Most importantly, what kind of liberal progressive berates, intimidates, bullies, trolls, attacks kids & family, and posts people's private info online?  In the case of the @cody_k, these things are done to people when they don't do exactly what the @cody_k demands.  No one would care who or what the account was made up of if it weren't for these things.  The @cody_k doesn't act like a liberal who is fighting for liberal progressive causes.  "Passion for the #P2 cause" isn't a factor here.

I'm going into some detail because a lot of people don't want to believe that @cody_k is not who she says she is.  We have several things to look at:

Part 1:
- Incentive
- The Links, the Hashtags

Part 2 (coming later):
- Why does @cody_k claim that followers matter?
- The importance @cody_k puts on things like "influence" and "reach"

- Incentive

When asked about how she never seems to sleep and just keeps tweeting, @cody_k has said she "pre-schedules" tweets (which she also used as an excuse on Multiply), but (a) she's often responding to someone during that time period which can't be pre-scheduled, (b) someone still has to create all those tweets with all those links, even if they're pre-scheduled, and (c) more often than not, you can look at the @cody_k timeline and see a lot of tweets with links coming at a rapid pace - even while she's arguing with someone.

How many of you could be as productive on twitter even if you did nothing else in your day?  If you had a partner, could two of you be that productive?  It's pretty unlikely that two people could produce all of the tweets with links, and tweet almost all day and night.  Even with three people that would be hard, but what if you could - what would be your incentive?  What would make spending all of your time on twitter worth it?

Ego?  Yes, a large part of it's ego for the @cody_k.  But the driving force behind it has to be money.  It's a lot easier than you might think.  And if the tweets are provided for the @cody_k, two people could run the account.

- The Links, the Hashtags

How many of you have seen the @cody_k tweet something like this?

Why are the links so important?  Aren't disussion and opinions the most important thing when someone responds to your tweets?

I did a few searches with terms like "make money tweeting politics" and it was pretty easy to find several services.  You can choose items like 'news' and 'politics' - they're not all about shoes, boots, or perfume.  Some are paid by the tweet, but mostly the links, the clicks on the links, etc., are what is counted for your payment.

This site names a few clients of one of the top services:

Did that say Newsweek?  Yes, it said Newsweek.  Here is a random sample of @Newsweek's timeline.  It looks a lot like @cody_k's minus all the hashtags.  (There are some other strange things about @Newsweek, like it follows the fake @danielspengLes account even though one look at it's timeline shows it's full of vulgarity which you would think would send @Newsweek packing, since it only follows less than 45% of it's followers.  Remember, @cody_k's 'friends' follow that fake account too, even though they supposedly hate the real @danielspengies' vulgarity.)

Speaking of hashtags, I signed up with a few of these services just to check them out.  Some of them let you specify which hashtags relate to the kinds of tweets you want, and some seem to even pay by category (hashtag).  @cody_k's tweets are loaded with hashtags.  Here are two examples of an original tweet and several RTers, including @cody_k.  Everyone else leaves the content to shine, while @cody_k overburdens the RT with hashtags - to the point that in one of these she takes out the original tweeter's name so she has room to put in hashtags.

The @cody_k tweets are so loaded with hashtags the content gets drowned out and they're hard to read.  It's like having to sift through all the ads on regular TV versus just watching the shows and movies on HBO.  Here's a speck of a typical @cody_k stream.  Look at the time between tweets and the number of hashtags.  Who can come up with this many tweets with links this often?  This is typical for the @cody_k.

I went through a couple of weeks of @Newsweek's and @KimKardashian's tweets looking for anything like "ad" or "ad.ly" or #spon or #sponsored, which ad.ly and Sponsored Tweets supposedly require.  Nothing like that showed up in their tweets.  These services say they require disclosure but neither Newsweek or Kim Kardashian had disclosed ads in their tweets, and it's unlikely that they both would go that long without ads.  You would think Newsweek would've had that blog corrected by now if the claim about them wasn't true, and Kardashian doesn't deny being paid for tweets so either she isn't required to disclose ads in her tweets for ad.ly or Sponsored Tweets, or she's using other services.  That means other people could, and do, do the same.

In other words, just because the @cody_k's tweets don't disclose that they're paid tweets doesn't mean they're not.  It's a lot more likely that her tweets are paid than not, considering the high volume, the timing, and the rest of the things discussed about the account here.  There are plenty of services out there, and all it takes is 'product placement' - you just keep mentioning something. Even if it's just hashtags.  Do you know how big politics are on twitter? The @cody_k could be using multiple services or something political that isn't widely known or used enough to show up easily in google searches.

How much do you think someone would be willing to pay a bulldog like the @cody_k account to tweet #P2 information and beat the heck out of anyone who disagrees?  It quiets the opposition - even if the opposition is true liberals trying to improve the democratic party.

Raise your hand if you remember the @cody_k in a long attack against @stranahan, a liberal progressive professional blogger and videographer, because a tcotter RTd a link to his video showing that Obama lied about a HCR point.

Raise your hand if you remember the @cody_k dropping her long-time friend @GottaLaff because @cody_k had told Laffy she didn't want her to report on a teaparty event.  Laffy was working and didn't see the demands made by the @cody_k, and suddenly found herself dumped because she had reported on that news event.  Hopefully Laffy didn't have to pick and choose reporting on news to keep the @cody_k happy once they made up.

Raise your hand if you witnessed any of the recent thrashings the @cody_k gave to quite a few genuine liberals - mostly because they had the nerve to disagree with her or call her out on something minor, or just refused to admit to some accusation made by the @cody_k.  Or, they had some criticism of Obama.

By now almost every hand must be raised.  This is some desperate stuff that doesn't resonate with an "authentic" account handled by an authentic, liberal progressive individual.

FYI, here's a copy of Sponsored Tweets signup page.  You'll see an area for entering hashtags, you can set your price per tweet, and you can have "underperforming" tweets auto-RT'd:

Here is a list of some of the services you can use on twitter, and many of them don't require that you disclose it's an ad (meaning you don't have to put #spon or something indicating it's an ad in the tweet).  There are more than this, just not necessarily well known.  A lot of services have a 'referral program' so you can make money by referring other people - or is it by referring other accounts?  If it's accounts, you could make a living just tweeting to multiple accounts once they've gained a trusted following.  The @cody_k says she has three accounts, but I haven't seen her say what the other two are used for or the usernames.

Part 2 coming later.  This isn't a picnic for me so I do it a little at a time.  I do it because it's wrong for #P2 to be deceived and controlled by such an influential account who is not what it pretends to be.  I said I'd let the @cody_k set the tone, nasty or nice, and she hasn't been very nasty lately so neither am I.
